The effort to understand the universe is one of the very few things that lifts human life a little above the level of farce, and gives it some of the grace of tragedy -- Steven Weinberg
Welcome to my personal homepage. I hold a Ph.D. in physics and have more than 13 years of experience working at large international research laboratories such as CERN (Geneva, CH) and DESY (Hamburg, D). My research, e.g. at the Large Hadron Collider LHC at CERN, has resulted in many journal publications and conference presentations. Due to my work, I have a deep knowledge of nuclear and particle physics, in particular in the areas of silicon detectors, fast signal processing, quantitative data analysis, statistics, software development, big data, multivariate methods and simulation. I have also made major contributions to the commissioning and operation of large and complex scientific devices.Besides my scientific achievements, I have obtained substantial leadership and project management experience within large intl. research collaborations at CERN and DESY, which involved coordinating the work of multi-national teams of scientists. I am a certified Project Management Associate (IPMA). I have co-organized several intl. workshops and conferences, and have been member of various intl. working groups and scientific bodies. As such, I am very familiar with international scientific cooperation, both at the European and global level. I have a broad knowledge of the various research funding instruments, in particular at the European level (Marie-Curie, Horizon2020, ERC). I have also been involved in grant applications for multi-MEUR national research funding.
